Wisharawish Akarasantisook– Your New Favorite Designer

The Mango Fashion Awards chose it’s winner, Wisharawish Akarasantisook, yesterday at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona after narrowing finalists down from over 250 entries from allover the world. The most recent 4th edition of the prestigious contest, occurs now every 18 months, seeking out the newest designers in fashion under 35 and  awarding them €300,000 to live their dream.

Wisharawish, is a designer from Bangkok, Thailand. I watched the video of his pieces and it pretty much blew my mind, the guy is a genius. In the video he speaks of incorporating an animal motif onto human bodies.  I really can’t wait to see what he does in the future. See for yourself…

I Heart “Pounou Hearts You”

Image

I have gone entirely too long without updating my blog, but life in the city has definitely taken a toll on my free time. Working in SoHo has proven to be a blessing and a curse. I am surrounded by some of the most beautiful fashion and design the city has to offer, but I spend entirely way too much time wondering what meals I can skip so that I can purchase them.

Regardless, the work I am in allows me to be exposed to a lot of different designers, many of which are based in New York City and stop in every once in awhile to see how things are going. This week I had the pleasure of meeting the illustrator behind the Pounou hearts you blog. Everyday she uploads a hand drawn illustration of Pounou and her chihuahua Em’Bo carrying out everyday situations. Each character has it’s own personality and the site provides some descriptions of the very relatable and comical characters that are used in her pieces (spoiler: Em’Bo is based off of her real life pup). The quirky and girly style is so adorable you will absolutely fall in love with it.

Pounou and her buddies are also featured on greeting cards, cosmetic cases and coin purses that you can purchase on Etsy or if you live in NYC you can find them at different markets listed on the blog. They are very unique and perfect for friends or significant others on special occasions.

Thursday Friday Bags for Everyday of the Week

Living in New York means that you pretty much automatically become a bag lady (or man). I truly feel that I am constantly lugging around totes full of groceries, laundry etc. etc. and it is only a matter of time before I must adopt an abandoned shopping cart to transport my belongings. Well, as I was shopping around in SoHo this weekend I stumbled upon a little ray of sunshine called the Together bag by Thursday Friday. This bag is a flexible and roomy tote that has the print of what appears to be a designer purse, what the designers refer to as an “anti-status status symbol.”

Not to mention, Thursday Friday is run by two smart and awesome ladies, Roni Brunn and Olena Sholomytska.  The trend for spring is bright bags so you can really kill two birds with one stone, functional and fashionable. Love it! The bags run about $65, but it’s a small price to pay when you can feel chic toting bags around the city. They also have a pretty cool blog, check it out here.

HELMUT by Helmut Lang

So, I don’t know about you, but Helmut Lang’s asymmetrical cuts and drapey fabrics are enough to make me drool. The only downside to Helmut Lang is that the pieces are usually pretty pricey, but good news, there is now going to be a capsule collection called HELMUT where T-shirts are more like $90 instead of $150. No, I don’t have $90 to spend on a T-shirt, but lower prices means lower sales prices and what’s not to love about that! Yay. Here’s a few pieces that you can purchase here before the line is even released in stores .
