Goodnight she said, I’m going to start a revolution.

After reading an excerpt from The Second Sex I had  strange revelation about an idea that I had heard many times since I have been studying feminism but today it has become much more clear to me. The unique aspect of a woman’s life is that she has no history of her own, as defined by her sex. Beauvoir writes “women lack concrete means for organizing themselves into a unit which can stand face to face with the correlative unit. They have no past, no history, no religion of their own..”

This idea blew my mind, thinking that their was no original state to refer back to, a primitive state where women had equal rights with men. Although it is believed that when mankind was made up of nomadic tribes that women and men shared responsibilities, there is no time that clearly women had an advantage over men or even total equality.According to Genesis 2, women were created by men and thus defined by them since their breath on Earth. In essence feminists are fighting for something women never had, a complete revolution.
